Description

Patrols race a relay against each other, following a trail of six figure grid references.

Resources

4 laminated maps of Maidenhead - kept in office.
4 sets of symbol cards.
4 tables.
4 fine tip wipeable markers.

Instructions

Scouts split up into patrols. Two patrols line up at one end the hall, two patrols line up at the other end of the hall. Tables are positioned opposite each team the distance of the hall away. Each table contains a map of Maidenhead and a pile of symbols (be careful to set up exactly as shown in the attachment). Individuals run up to the table, find what is at the grid reference and then find the matching card and run back to give it to the next person in their patrol. They should mark their route on the map so you can see it has been completed in the right order. Once they have all eight cards they shout STOP. The first patrol to shout STOP wins.
