Life can sometimes feel like a giant maze, full of twists, turns and tricky choices. Through this activity, we’ll discover that while we don’t always know which way to go, God promises to guide us every step of the way.

Instructions

The Maze Challenge

Give each child our activity sheet and ask them to complete the maze as quickly as they can.
Once everyone has finished, ask:
Was it easy or difficult?
Did anyone go down a dead end?
What did you have to do when you realised you’d gone the wrong way?
Was it easier once you could see where the correct path was?
Explain that life can sometimes feel exactly the same. We don’t always know which path to take, and sometimes we make choices that lead us the wrong way.

Who’s the Best Guide?

Choose one volunteer and ask them to stand at one end of the room.
Set up a simple obstacle course or taped-out maze using cones, chairs or masking tape.
Pair the children up in groups of 2
Play in 2 rounds (each child gets a turn)
Round 1: The volunteer is blindfolded (or asked to keep their eyes closed) and tries to reach the finish with no help.
Round 2: Reset them to the start. This time another child acts as their guide, giving calm directions such as “two steps forward”, “turn left” or “stop”.
Bonus round: Reset them to the start but have more than one child giving directions.

Afterwards ask the children which round was easier and why? How did it feel knowing someone was helping you?
Explain that we aren’t meant to go through life on our own. God doesn’t leave us to guess our way through every decision. He wants to guide us.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
The Bible doesn’t promise that life will never be difficult or confusing. There will still be twists, turns and challenges. But God promises that when we trust him instead of relying only on ourselves, he will guide us along the right path.

Sometimes we won’t know the whole route ahead, just like we can’t always see the end of a maze. But God can.

Next Step
Using the activity sheet, invite everyone to quietly write or draw two or three things in the footprints, that they would like God’s help with. It might be, something at school or at home, something they are worried about, something new or different that is about to take place, a friend that needs support, or just something that is sitting on their mind.
Explain that this is between them and God and they don’t have to share it unless they want to. These footprints are a reminder that God walks with us every step of the way.
Finish with a prayer.
