✂️ Mission Briefing

The fashion industry generates millions of tonnes of waste every year, but tonight, your Patrol is taking over the runway. Your task is to design, construct, and present a high-fashion outfit made entirely from bin bags and dry household packaging.

The Rules:

Safety First: NEVER place bin bags or film over anyone’s head or face. Always cut armholes and neck holes before putting a bag on your model.

Core Outfit: Must include a main garment (e.g., dress, suit, cape, armor, jacket) and at least one accessory (e.g., top hat, tie, shoulder pads, handbag, belt).

The Script: You must write a 3-sentence runway commentary for the MC to read out describing your outfit's inspiration, materials used, and key features.

Time Limit: You have exactly 35 minutes to build and brief your model before backstage call time!

? Suggestions for Presenting the Activity

To grab their attention right away during the briefing:

Leader Hook: Have one of the Leaders walk out at the start of the briefing wearing an over-the-top bin bag cape, a cardboard top hat, and foil sunglasses. A visual hook instantly sets a lighthearted tone and breaks the ice.

The "Dragon's Den" Twist: Tell them that the judges aren't just looking for good looks—they are looking for structural integrity (does it stay together when walking?) and creative upcycling (did they turn a cereal box into something unrecognizable?).

Set the Vibe: Run a high-energy playlist in the background while they build to create a fast-paced "fashion studio" atmosphere.

? Materials List & Creative Uses

Heavy-duty black bin bags, clear recycling bags, green food caddy liners, supermarket plastic bags - cut slit bottoms for skirts, side slits for capes, or layer contrasting colored bags for a tiered ruffle effect.

Cereal boxes, egg cartons, toilet paper tubes, corrugated cardboard - shoulder pads, top hats, crowns, wide belts, lapels, or armor plating.

Clean tin foil, bubble wrap, old newspaper, crisp packets (washed inside out for silver look) - foil ties/bowties, newspaper pleated skirts, bubble-wrap collars, or metallic arm guards.

Plastic bottle tops, milk carton rings, netting (from fruit bags), yarn/string - bottle-cap buttons, net veils, braided plastic bag belts, or fringing.

Masking tape, duct tape, safety pins, hole punches, scissors - use hole punches and string to lace cardboard together instead of relying only on tape!
