Resources

What You Need
• Gas Stove from church and gas
• 300g of fresh conkers (horse chestnuts)
• 500ml of water
• A hammer or knife to crush the nuts
• A saucepan
• A sieve or cheesecloth

Instructions

Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Gather and wash: Collect fresh, clean horse chestnuts and wash off any dirt.
2. Crush the conkers: Place the conkers in a tea towel and use a hammer to bash them open. Chop the inner white nut into small pieces and discard the dark brown outer shell.
3. Boil the mixture: Put the chopped conker pieces into a saucepan with 500ml of water. Add optional lemon slices now if you want a better scent.
4. Simmer: Bring the water to a boil, then turn down the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes. Add a little extra water if the level gets too low.
5. Cool and strain: Let the liquid cool completely. Pour it through a fine sieve or a cloth into a clean jar or soap dispenser.
6. Test by washing your hands!

• Uses: This natural liquid works as a gentle handwash, washing-up liquid, or laundry detergent. It does not foam as much as store-bought soap because it relies on natural plant chemicals called saponins.
• Storage: Keep it in the fridge and use it within 1 to 2 weeks, as it spoils quickly without artificial preservatives.
• Warning: Conkers are mildly toxic if eaten. Keep them away from small children and pets.
