Description

A 45 minute code breaking activity aimed at Cubs

Resources

Print 5 Agent Logbooks (one per group).
Print the 5 station cards (pages 3–7). Laminate them if you can.
Print the take-home key cards (last page) — 5 sheets gives 30 cards.
Pencils and scrap paper at every station.
Station 5: at least 6 sheets of white paper with the location written in white wax crayon (press
hard), watercolours or watery poster paint, 2–3 wide brushes, water pots, newspaper, paper
towels.
Treasure box holding 5 group prizes, one labelled bag per group (A to E).
Whistle and a timer.
Hide the treasure first, then write the invisible-ink sheets to match, e.g. YOUR WORD IS UNDER
THE STAGE.

Instructions

Five groups rotate round five code stations, 7 minutes each, cracking one secret word at each. In the
last 5 minutes they assemble the words into a sentence that reveals where the treasure is hidden.
Story hook (read aloud): "Agents, a spy has hidden the Pack's treasure somewhere in this building.
She left five coded clues, each in a different secret code. Crack all five and you'll know exactly where to
look. Good luck — this message will self-destruct... eventually."
