Resources
card paper, ( black or plane so kids can colour their own bats) sellotape, straw, string, scissors, googly eyes (optional )
Instructions
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut out the bat:
• Draw or trace a bat shape with a central body and two wide wings onto your black paper, then cut it out.
• Lightly score or crease the wings near the body if you want them to fold and flap more easily.
2. Prepare the straw and string:
• Cut your drinking straw to fit along the back or center of the bat's body.
• Cut two equal pieces of string , depending on bat's size1.
3. Thread the mechanism:
• Thread both strands of string together through the hollow center of the straw.
2. Attach the straw and strings to the bat:
• Tape the center of the straw securely to the middle of the bat's body (keeping the string free to slide inside).
• Take the top ends of the string (emerging from the top of the straw) and tape one string end to the underside of the left wing, and the other string end to the underside of the right wing.
3. Add details and animate:
• Glue on googly eyes or draw fangs to decorate your bat's face.
• Hold the straw with one hand and gently pull the bottom loop of the strings to make the wings flap up and down.
